ZonMw videos on breakthrough projects

Since 2018, researchers have been working hard to identify and minimise the health effects of micro- and nanoplastics. Initial projects have shown that small plastic particles can penetrate the intestinal wall, lungs, placenta, and even the blood-brain barrier. They disrupt several body cells and inflammatory reactions can sometimes occur. However, the potential health risks are still unclear. Researchers are therefore continuing their work in the MOMENTUM consortium, which received new funding from ZonMw in 2023, along with 7 breakthrough projects. In a series of videos, ZonMw talked to researchers from these breakthrough projects to learn about their work.
