What are microplastics and chemicals doing to our health?

Juliette Legler, coordinator of MOMENTUM and toxicologist at Universiteit Utrecht, talked about her research and engaged with the audience in a lecture by Studium Generale.

She explained how complex the research into microplastics is, given the many different types of plastics, additives, and the difficulty to reliably detect and measure them. She also emphasized that interdisciplinary collaboration and team science are essential. In her own studies, chemists, toxicologists, pediatricians, environmental scientists, and others have come together to start unravelling the effects of chemicals and microplastics on our health.
