Silent Invaders: discussion about microplastics and human health

MOMENTUM researchers Emma Kasteel and Annemijne van den Berg were recently invited at BetaBreak, the science discussion platform of the University of Amsterdam. At the event, entitled Silent Invaders, Kasteel and Van den Berg talked about the effects of microplastics on our brain and immune system and explained the limitations they face in their research. In response to questions from the audience, they also discussed the presence of microplastics in cosmetics and potential methods to reduce our exposure. Van den Berg: “I hope the attendees now have a better understanding of the complexity of microplastics and recognize why it is essential to investigate their impact on our health”.
