Presentations at the 33rd annual meeting of the Society for Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry

MOMENTUM member Prof. Dr. Barbro Melgert and MOMENTUM postdoc Martin Brits both presented their research at the 33rd annual meeting of the Society for Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry in Dublin, on 4 May 2023.

Prof. Dr. Barbro Melgert presented the latest insights into effects of airborne microplastics on lung tissue. The session on ‘Micro (Nano)Plastics: Occurrence, Fate, Uptake, and Mechanistic Approaches to Understand Their Risk for the Environment and Human Health’ was chaired by Carlos Edo (University of Alcala), Francisca Fernandez-Pinas (Universidad Autonoma de Madrid), Miguel Oliveira (University of Aveiro), and Craig Warren Davis (ExxonMobil Biomedical Sciences Inc).

Martin Brits presented the latest improvements on the quantitative pyrolysis-GC/MS method for the analysis of plastic particles in human blood. The session on ‘Establishing the State-of-the-Science in Human Exposure to Micro- and Nanoplastic’ was chaired by Stephanie Wright (Imperial College, London, UK) and Kevin Thomas (Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences, Australia).
