Global increase in plastic production expected

The global production of plastic is expected to double, or even triple, between now and 2050. This will inevitably result in more plastic pollution and more microplastics in our environment. MOMENTUM researcher Petra Krystek discussed the implications for RTL Nieuws (in Dutch). “We are currently still in the middle of studying the potentially harmful effects of microplastics. Despite alarming signals, such as reports of plastic being found in animals and humans, it is too early now to draw conclusions about environmental damage.”
