Conversation about microplastics and environmental pollution
We are exposed to many different substances in our environment, including small plastic particles. Professor of regenerative medicine Luc van der Laan (Erasmus MC) and associate professor in environmental sciences Thijs Bosker (Universiteit Leiden), both part of MOMENTUM or related projects, joined Studio Erasmus to discuss the consequences.
They explain how microplastics and nanoplastics can enter plants, animals, and humans, and what their effects are. In addition to plastic particles, we are also exposed to other substances in our environment, such as pesticides and chemicals. This combination is cause for concern. Bosker: “We are polluting our ecosystem and this will have consequences.”
