Microplastics found in arteries – cause for both concern and caution

A recent study found that the presence of micro- and nanoplastics in human arteries was associated with an increased risk of heart attack, stroke, or death. These results have renewed concerns about the potential effects of microplastics on human health. However, the question of whether the plastic particles actually harm people remains unanswered. Science News talked to researchers about the implications of the new study. Among them, MOMENTUM coordinator Juliette Legler, who emphasises that plastics are notoriously tricky to investigate: “Plastics are everywhere in our labs, it’s so easy to contaminate our samples.”
