Finished your bottle of water? Then you also ingested hundreds of plastic particles

Disposable bottles of water contain about 240,000 plastic particles per liter, according to a recent American study published in the American journal PNAS. By using a new detection method, the researchers were able to detect very small plastic particles called nanoplastics. MOMENTUM’s Juliette Legler was interviewed by the Dutch news outlet ‘RTL Nieuws’ about this study, of which she is enthusiastic. “It is incredibly difficult to detect those very small particles, people have mainly measured larger microplastics so far. This study is interesting because the detection method is so advanced.”
